This is a thread where we can share random sports views. For example:
View: The Patriots-Colts rivalry is beginning to reach a bubble point. The media has acted all week like it's a playoff game or something. Personally, I don't particularly care a whole lot about it relative to any other game. |

Disagree. This has been a pretty wild season so far, there are suplots all over the place, surprise-good teams, surprise-bad teams, upsets, breakout players, etc. Probably more parity than in any other sport. But still, the same handful of teams.... Ravens, Steelers, Pats, Colts, are right there at the top of it. Pats-Colts is big every season. Pats are big favorites this year, mostly because of Indy's injuries, but it always FEELS like it's not Pats-Colts but Brady-Manning. Pretty excited about this game.
PS Peyton Manning sucks cock and so do people from Indiana. Which I think is most of you? |

I partially agree. I agree in the sense that neither of the teams are great this year (NE lost to Cleveland, Colts lost to Jax (when they were much healthier than they are now)). That said, the game still has a vibe to it that makes it bigger than most others. I think that vibe will be there so long as Tom is a Patriot and Peyton is a Colt.

Baseball is slow and boring, yes, but it's also a great game. Whereas most sports are abstract allowing optimal plays to be up for debate, baseball is almost like chess: a game of complete information. You should, in theory, be able to make a perfect statistical decision every time as a baseball manager, which, as a geeky stat nerd, makes me enjoy it a lot.

I have some very passionate feelings on Soccer vs. American sports. If anybody wants to hear I will share. Kremlin is annoyed when I talk about it.

Baseball is an amazing sport. As UB stated, it is a wonderful game of strategy. Perhaps I'm bias because I used to play baseball, but it is my absolute favorite sport. No other game has the tension, the anticipation, that baseball possesses as the pitcher beings to windup and throw the ball. It seems to me that many people who feel that baseball is boring do not understand the plays and strategy involved in the game. That may not be completely accurate, but I feel that it's an exciting game rich with tradition and history.

View: I can't stand non-regionally based fans or fans that only support big time franchises/winning teams.
Example: John is a fan of the Lakers, Yankees, Notre Dame football, North Carolina Basketball, and the Dallas Cowboys. In my opinion these are the absolute worst type of fans. I know a guy who is actually a "die hard" (in his words) fan of these teams. That's one of the lamest things I've ever heard. He's a die hard of none and a fair weather fan of teams that win championships. There aren't enough expletives I could use to tell you how I really feel about him as a sports fan. Closely followed would be flip-floppers. UB at one time was a big Cubs fan (so I thought) and acted very passionately about them during the Wood/Prior playoff run. Only to see now that he's moved to Houston that the Cubs and Wrigley field are a heaping pile of trash. It wouldn't matter if I moved to Tokyo, Japan the Cubbies would still and will always be my favorite MLB team. |

There's life and then there is Cubs baseball, it's a chore to seperate the two.

My passion for Indiana Basketball and Football isn't a waste of time. I follow recruiting, post on message boards, and don't miss a game ever. My favorite thing to watch on tv is an Indiana basketball game. It's something that I'm passionate about and something that I enjoy doing. I fail to see where that is a waste of time at all.

I notice that you get very uncomfortable at the fact that I'm no longer a die-hard Cubs fan. It reminds me of how my mother gets around people who are unapologetically not-Christian.

Fuck the Cubs imo. I used to like them. Then I liked the Yankees for a bit. I kind of like the Giants now, though. Something about them just gets me hard. Can't quite put my finger on it, but I'd definitely call myself die hard.
In fact, I think we're going to go to Series again next year. I am really feeling good about our squad. Note that I'm not an actual member of the Giants' organization, but, since I'm die hard, I'm able to refer to them as "we". |

I find it comical when people switch sports team allegiances. Especially when they seemed so passionate about that team at one point. The whole premise of my view was how much I don't like fair weather fans, so yes I guess I could say it makes me uncomfortable. I was more responding to your passive aggressiveness towards me after I made my post.

Orgazmo, let me guess, when you were growing up you liked the 49ers, or the Cowboys? And def the Bulls. Recently you've liked the Lakers, and you can't quite put your finger on why....

To be quite honest, I don't give a shit about other peoples alliances with teams. People can switch teams yearly, it's not going to keep me up tonight. I love sports, but pretty much hate people, so I just focus on the guys that play, and not the people that cheer for them.
