So I decided to start a soccer blog, just to have somewhere to geek out. So far I only have 2 posts and it's not really been advertised. The first is a more technical one about tactics, the latest is why I am a goalkeeper.

Went aggressive with my formation in Fifa last night. Got my first win in 9 matches. Things seem to be turning around for Klingsman's crew.

FIFA is basically realistic enough that real world strategy applies, but will certainly work on that.

Not for defence.

I employ a tactic of blatantly fouling people off the ball, and grabbing them from behind as they have a break away. Also, triangle lob balls are recovered by your attacking striker way too often. Fifa incentivises a very attacking long ball game as long as you're willing to play dirty and get an occasional yellow card to make up for having exposed yourself.

How do you think Chelsea won the Champion's League?

The long ball thing works to a degree, just like in real life.

You're right about the fouling though, FIFA often gives yellows when reds would be correct, on clear goal scoring opportunities.

More importantly: it never penalizes you for off-the-ball fouls.

My favorite is that in England (presumably in most of the world) selecting the number "23" for oneself has no implications whatsoever.

While obviously your point is about Jordan, allow me to ramble.

For me it will always be a little special, since it was Marco Materazzi's number, and he was possibly the dirtiest player in my time watching the game (and was the one Zidane headbutted in the 2006 World Cup final).

Plus Clint Dempsey wore it at Fulham, and it's often given to the 3rd string goalkeeper on national teams (limited to 23 man rosters).
