This is also one of the worst fucking things about the NHL. I never liked this change. They don't do this in the playoffs. You don't get rewarded for losing in overtime and there's no shootout. You really don't know who is a legitimate threat to win the cup. Two first round series last year had at least 4 overtime games. Only two series in the 2012 playoffs didn't have an overtime game. So why change the way game is played in the playoffs? In the regular season if tied after 60 minutes, it's 4 on 4 for 5 minutes then a penalty shot contest. In the playoffs it's 5 on 5 in 20 minute increments until somebody scores. It's stupid.

AP of course preferred the older system of playing an extra period until somebody scores and if not, then it's a tie and the loser gets nothing for losing. Like how it is in the playoffs now (except the tie). Or fucking carry the regular season format over into the playoffs. The world cup has been decided on penalty kicks. Stanley Cups can be decided on penalty shots. Whatever it is, be fucking consistent.

Nothing worse than having a good regular season 4 on 4 and penalty shot team get blown out of the first round because the game ends differently.

EDIT: single season records don't mean jack shit when the season starts in January.

Yes, but it's been a long fucking time since an NHL team had a 22 game winning streak. In fact the record is still 17. Pittsburgh in the early 1990s. In fact, nobody has come close to this since then.

Longest unbeaten streak I think still belongs to the flyers. They played damn near half a full season without a loss.

What the Blackhawks have done is impressive no doubt. But not losing in regulation is different than winning 22 straight. Which is different from not losing at all in 40 games when you either won or tied. The point system changed. Nobody ever counted overtime losses until the last 10 years or so. It's hard to say that the 1980s Edmonton Oilers would've obliterated this, when they didn't keep track.

Know what the Pens and Flyers have in common besides these streaks? They both lost to the Islanders in the playoff the year of their streak.

How fucking stupid are you to call it a 22 game winning streak when, in the same circle, the win column has 19 in it?

They've lost 3 games in a shootout. THEY LOST. They still got a point, but THEY LOST.

I agree with Felix, although I believe they have won their last 12 I believe. The streak is the most consecutive points to start the season. They have got at least one point in every game.

Red Wings screw me over again! I had first dibs on 2 tickets @Detroit if they were to play the Hawks in the first round. It appears as though they might match up in the 2nd round, which would be even better!!! I love NHL Playoff hockey almost as much as March Madness!!!! Tuesday starts 2 months of heaven for me as long as the Hawks make a run!!!

The Sharks won their first game against Vancouver in Vancouver which is surprising because they've only won like 8 games on the road all season. Repeat performance this evening at 7 PST.

The Hawks are so fucking soft. The Wild physically dominated them in Game 3. Shaw tried to mix it up a bit. Bollig and Bickell are trying way to hard offensively to score goals. Their offense starts with their physical play along the boards.

Crawford is getting shit on by the people new to hockey, but without him yesterday, they get drubbed. The OT winner was a tough angle, and a great shot.

Wings force a game 7 last night. I would love to see the Hawks Wings do battle, and even have an oppurtunity at a couple tickets for games 3 and 4 @Detroit. Sunday sets up for another huge sports day, that I won't be able to enjoy because it's mothers day.

You picked a great time to start following the Islanders. Young team with a lot of talent. They will be a fun team to watch in the coming years.

Hawks snag Detroit, which makes me happy and nervous at the same time. This is going to be a blood bath, which is right up Detroits alley. Hawks seemed to start getting things together last week, so hopefully their skill can beat the Wings grit. No matter what happens, this is going to be one hell of a series. Heart says Hawks in 6, Head says Hawks in 7.
