COME ON YOU YANKS
|
The best place for pizza has been the subject of large debate since the beginning of time. Recently, I've been involved in a few conversations that have centered around this topic. With that said, I bring to you, fellow Nubblites, the debate.
Personally, I'm a huge Domino's fan. Their pizza really has it all for a very reasonable price. Sure, they're not the absolute cheapest...but, when you have the best pizza in the area and your prices beat out most of the competition...that's something to be proud of. Recently I've (re)discovered the joy of Little Caesar's pizza (located within K-Mart). For only $5.00, you can have an entire medium pizza. While the quality isn't quite like the original Little Caesars that we used to have, it is still very good pizza...especially for the price tag. Of course, Pizza Hut offers a fine product...but there's nothing that especially stand-out there. I've found that Pizza Hut is many people's 2nd favorite pizza place. In a time where first place pizza places vary greatly from person to person, the universal pizza place often finds itself visited by those with conflicting interests...leaving many a'party with happily compromised folks. Then there's Pizza King. Pizza King really is a hit-or-miss place. Personally, I'm a huge fan of their pizza with barbecue sauce...whilst I find their normal pizza rather flavorless. I've found that most people either love Pizza King or hate Pizza King. Next up is Papa John's. Better Ingredients...Better Pizza...err something. If you're interested in a box full of cheese and grease, this is what you're looking for. I don't really have a problem with them, as I find their pizza to be pretty damn good, especially for their quite discount prices, but many people hate this place. Another plus in my book is the extreme crustiness of their pie. Of course, one man's treasure is another's trash...as many have complained about this very feature. I see it as a separate breadstick attached to each slice of pizza, a definite plus. Others argue that they have ordered pizza, not pizza & breaksticks. Fair. Gordy's has an alright pizza. If you want something that's not greasy in the least bit...yet pretty damn good, this is the place to go. Certainly not the best...but it's always there if you get sick of the main stream...or if someone wants something that's not pizza. Other places that come to mind are Gambie's & Noble Roman's; however, I haven't been to either enough recently to comment. Another thing that I haven't mentioned is the pizza's ability to retain great taste when consumed as a leftover. Some folks heat it back up whilst others, like myself, prefer to eat the treat cold. Either way, the pizza must be able to be salvaged a day or two after the initial consumption. Consistent with their other high marks, I have found that Domino's does the best job of this. Pizza hut comes in a close second, followed by Little Caesar's, Pizza King, & Papa Johns (all quite decent). Unfortunately, Gordies & Gambie's (the one thing I do remember about Gambie's) are not very good the next day. It should be noted that the comment in this paragraph only take into consideration eating the product cold, as I never reheat. Anyhoo, what are you opinions of the places of Warsaw? I think that I've included all of them...but I could be missing a few. Talk. |

The best pizza I have ever eaten in my life, or will ever eat in my life comes from Monical's Pizza. Most of my relatives live in Canton, Illinois, where a Monical's branch is located. I am here to tell you, you will never be able to truly enjoy another brand of pizza again once you eat this stuff. They have a homemade French Dressing that they give you to eat with their wonderful salad; well, as I, and most of the rest of Monical's followers out there have found, if you dip your pizza in the French Dressing, it enduces orgasm. The shit is so good. I just had some last weekend, and I'm going through withdrawls right now. So if you ever get the chance to eat at a Monical's, don't pass up on it. A+
Alright, so it's pretty clear what my first choice is, but unfortunetly for me and the rest of us, there is no Monical's in Warsaw, Indiana. So as far as Warsaw-Only pizza places, here you are: 1.) Pizza Hut. Call me boring/plain/unoriginal, but that can't change the fact that this is the best pizza in Warsaw. The only reason people put it at their second, is because they feel like a boring-ass person by saying that simply Pizza Hut is their favorite pizza. But the bottom line is, if we averaged out everyone's votes on pizza places, Pizza Hut would slay the competition because everyone likes it at least a little bit. A- 2.) Domino's. As some of you have come to find out, I am a fan of eating. Domino's pizza is very conducive to eating a lot of it, all in a small amount of time. I can put down 10 pieces of Domino's in 15 minutes, no problem. The stuff's not great, but it's certainly not bad either. B+ 3.) Little Ceasar's. I had this stuff for the first time in years, a few weeks ago. I ate it a TON when I was a little kid, because my Dad is cheap, and so is Little Ceasar's. When I was younger, I never remember liking it too much, but I think they may have changed their shit up or something, because now it's really good. As Orgazmo said, if you go to the one in Warsaw (inside of K-Mart), you can get a Medium pizza for $5.00. This is more than enough to fill most of you guys up for at least one-meal, and it's good pizza too. B+ 4.) Big Daddy's. This place started up a few years ago in Warsaw. It's a pretty good place with pretty good people, and pretty good pizza. B 5.) Pizza King. Pizza King is pretty damn overrated in my eyes. A lot of people seem to really like it, and I'll be honest, I think it's pretty close to a pile of greasy shit. As it happens, I like greasy shit, so it makes the list in a pretty decent spot. But that doesn't change the fact that there are many 'a pizza places out there, that kick Pizza King in the ass. C 6.) Gambie's. Now, Gambie's isn't horrible or anything, but it just never really did it for me. A lot of people like it, but I get the impression that they like it out of pity because it's a small family-owned business struggling for customers. C- 7.) Papa John's. I've had this arguement many-a-time with people, and I will hold my ground till the end of time. Papa John's is shit. The crust compiles the entire pizza, and I hate that. If you are searching for a pizza that you think you aren't going to like, then be aware that Papa John's specializes in such pizzas. Papa John's tastes like shit (not that I would know what shit tastes like...). Now, if any of you ever see me eating it, don't get me wrong, I'll eat the shit if I have to, 'cause it's still pizza, and pizza is damn good. It's just the worst pizza out there, that's all. I hate it so much... F Nice thread Orgazmo. -Ugly Bastard PS: You can order "half-baked" pizzas from Monical's Pizza. We get some of these and bring them home with us from Illinois from time to time. All you do is finish cooking her in your oven. It's not quite as good as the stuff they serve you in the restaurant, but it still gives you a taste of what Monical's is all about. So if any of you want a Monical's pizza, my parents are going to back to Canton, Illinois in two weeks for my Mother's 25th Class Reunion. And I'll tell you what, this is how much I want you to try this stuff: Each pizza is like $12-14 or so, but if you give me $5, and tell me what toppings you'd like, I could have them bring you back one of these pizzas with some of their Famous French Dressing to dip it in, I'll cover the rest of the bill for your pizza, it'd be worth it knowing that you got to try it. Just let me know. [ July 10, 2003, 08:00 AM: Message edited by: Ugly Bastard ] |

I might have to take you on that offer UB. I think pizza is the best food that has ever grazed my taste buds. I love trying new pizza. Pizza is wonderful because there is so many ways to make it, kinda like chili (also an amazing food).
My list would go as following: 1. Vesuvio's Pizza - A pizza branch located mainly in Michigan and far northern Indiana. I've been lucky enough to have a dad that lives in Elkhart where there are 2 Vesuivio's pizzarias. The only words I can find to describe this pizza would be godly and immaculate. If you ever find yourself 20 miles out of Elkhart and could go for some pizza, it's well worth the drive, and if you don't agree, i will give you the gas money you wasted, (which will never be a needed favor, as you will realize this is the best pizza ever). 2. Pizza Hut - Everyone likes it... I LOVE it. Pizza Hut has the best crust out of any pizza place and the toppings/sauce are amazing as well. 3. Little Ceasar's - This pizza used to be a staple in my household until it was sadly taken away from us. I also find myself visiting K-Mart to get a pizza slice or two every now and then. 4. Pizza King and Domino's - These are both in my average area. They both have good pizza, but nothing that makes me splooge like 1-3 do. Pizza King's pepperoni pizza with barbeque sauce is delicious, not to mention their breadsticks and cheese sauce. Domino's can be really good but is just one of those pizzas I only feel like eating 2 or 3 times a year. 5. Papa John's - A year ago if this same question would have been posed to me PJ's would have been at least 3rd on my list, but I've had it way to much since then and have lost my excitment for it. I only eat it when really hungry or when they have (the only redeeming factor for them anymore) great deals. 6. Gambie's and Fat Boy's Pizza - Both are horrible... Warsaw can not produce a family owned pizzaria for the life of it. Goshen, Elkhart, South Bend, and Fort Wayne all have independently owned pizza places worthy of being on this list. Neither of these places should have money wasted on them, even if you're starving, especially Gambie's, if you are going to eat pizza at Gambie's do yourself a favor and walk across the street to Speedway and buy some cheetos and a mountain dew slurpee. |

Unlike Orgazmo and UB I can't argue a point either way on most of the pizza places in warsaw, because I either haven't tried their pizza, or it's been too long for me to remember specifically what their pizza tastes like.
In my house it's pretty much either Pizza Hut (which is my favorite) or Papa Johns (my dad's favorite). I love pizza hut, sure it's kinda greasy, but i love it anyway, pan pizza is the best. I love how thick it is, very good. Pizza king is alright. I really don't like how their sausage is all crumbly, and it's pretty dry, however, i'll eat it if that's my only option. Papa Johns is honestly one of my least favorite pizzas, but not really for the taste. The pizza itself is pretty good, and I like the garlic sauce, but I have problems with the over all package. 1. the crust. It's dry and hard and there's more of it than actual pizza. Like Orgazmo said, i ordered pizza, not dry, hard breadsticks. 2.there's more dough in the crust than there is under the pizza. I HATE how you hold it by the crust and the pizza goes limp, and then all the toppings fall off. That's not pizza, it's sauce covered bread. 3.i'm simply not a fan of thin crust pizza. Granted this is soft and not crispy, but still. It's the dough that fills you up, not the cheese and toppings, so you have to eat more of papa johns' pizza in order to be full. I think it's a scam... anyway, that's my 2 cents go pizza hut! |

Well let's see.
Dominos pizza is by far the best pizza that has ever been made. Nothing comes close to Dominos. 2nd place would have to go to Papa John's. I like their pizza quite a bit, but it's still a distint 2nd to Dominos. Oh and for those of you who hate it b/c it's got too much crust, they also have a thin crust pizza that is absolutely wonderful. 3rd place goes to Pizza Hut. Their pizza is alright, but there really isn't any too great about it. It's still good, of course. Noble Roman's has probably the best breadsticks I have ever eaten in my life. Not to mention that they have really pretty damn good pizza, too. I'd recommend checking it out, we have one at Lane's Phillip 66 station on Center street. Mancino's pizza I basically hate. My brother likes it, but I don't really care much for it. Same goes for Big Daddy's. Pizza King would probably come in 5th place, it's actually pretty damn good. I dont like the barbacue pizza, but regular pizza sauce I like. Gordies...I'd rather get a sub. Little Ceasar's I have yet to go to K-Mart to try this. Although I tried it in the past when we used to have one in the Marketplace shopping center, I have not had any for many years thus making any rating of their pizza unvaild. Great thread Orgazmo. |

The best pizza place is Giordano's in Chicago. The atmosphere is like something out of a mobster movie. The first time I went there our waiter, no shitting, told us that it's best not to look around too much. When they bring the pizza to the table, it's like a light shining down from heaven showing you everything that is right with the world. Three guys shared a medium pizza and had about half left over. Unfortunately, we were on our way to a concert and didn't want to tote the leftovers along so we left it as a much appreciated tip for our cabbie. In closing, go there as soon as you get the chance... perhaps if the chicago zoo trip ever materializes, this could be a welcome pit stop, savvy?

Hell yes Giordano's is the best pizza ever. I had some during a soccer tournament, and wow. That is the best place, i thought I was the only person that's eaten there on here. So that'd be my numero uno also. The way that they put the sauce outside of the pizza is pretty kickass too. Our waitor was super pimp there, he let us take like every single mint out of that place, which normally wouldn't be too much to brag about, but we walked out with the largest single ammount of mints I've ever had in my posession at once. Not only that, they were delicously cinamony.
A solid second place goes to East of Chicago Pizza Co. and excellent pizza place. How often can you get a peanut butter and jelly pizza? Not very, but you can at East of Chicago. Third place is a tie between Domino's and Pizza Hut. Both delicious and efficient. Locally, they've always been my favorite. The worst place is Papa John's. Too damn much tomato sauce. I don't care if it's fresh made, that does not require them to put so damn much of it on. Shit, pure shit. The only good thing at Papa John's is the garlic dip. What about "Fat Boy's Pizza"?
Worst pizza I've ever had. I have personally made better pizzas than they sell. ttbabe23 is the first to address cold pizza. When choosing my favorite pizza, I always consider how it tastes cold. Best Cold Pizza: 1. Papa John's 2. Pizza King 3. all the rest I would also like to discuss breadsticks. My number one choice for breadsticks is Mancino's. They are a meal unto themselves. They are simply huge. The average breadstick is about a foot long. If you have never had them you are missing out. Fucking delicious. [ July 16, 2003, 03:05 AM: Message edited by: ninjaface ] |

Actually, Orgazmo mentioned cold pizza in the initial post of this thread. I would definately agree with you on the breadsticks, Mancino's are fantastic. Does Mancino's even exist anymore though?

Mancino's could. They even had mac and cheese on their buffet, and all you could eat breadsticks, let alone pizza, for like 4 bucks. However, now Pizza Hut does have the best deal.

1)Pizza King - Mostly I like their sausage. If it doesn't have their sausage on it, it's not nearly as good.
2)Pizza Hut - Every one's second favorite. That's why it's so popular, everyone can settle for it. 3)Little Caesars - Just because it's so fuckin' cheap. I can't believe it...plus, their little cheese sticks are awesome (although they no longer have Crazy Bread). 4)Gambie's - I really like them (and it doesn't hurt that I've known the owner my whole life). Their subs are delicious, which isn't the issue here, but their pizza's are good too. 5)Papa John's - Shit. Complete shit. If you don't gag on the gallon of sause, then you can enjoy the breadstick with the one peperoni on it. All Papa John's has going for it is their garlic butter sause that you dip the crust in. 6)Domino's - The only reason it's at the bottom is the grease. It is so greasy, that it gives me heart burn EVERY time I get it. I have never had Domino's pizza, and not been to the point of wanting to vomit. |

bad pizza: Marco's... it tastes almost exactly like Tombstone only a lot greasier, but it's cheap and fast.
there's also a place in fort wayne that delivers uncooked pizza... what the fuck? why would you pay someone to bring you a pizza that you're gonna have to cook anyway. ok, I'll admit it, I got it once cause they were selling hart shaped pies on valentine's day... I'm a hopeless romantic. |
