COME ON YOU YANKS
|
A vast majority of the board doesn't give a shit about poker. To those folks, there is no point in reading this...because it won't tickle your fish. The post is more for folks like Brass & BDH...who will most assuredly be interested. Without further ado, I present...
The Most Amazing Poker Hand The setting is Howick Hall, inside of the Noyer Complex, residing on the campus of lovely Ball State University. Players include Tongue, Ugly, Trout, Myself, and a non-Nubblite. Of course, we're playing No Limit Hold'em...five-dollar buy-in while at college...because we're poor at college. Trout has been short-stacked all night long. He lost a good chunk at the beginning of the evening and is fighting to maintain any chips a'tall. Of course, because he has alligator blood, he won't go away. He goes all-in quite a few times with chip amounts ranging from $.50 - $2.00, winning each time. After winning his all-in bets, he goes on to slowly dwindle his stack back to a point between $.50 & $2.00...before going all-in again and doubling up. There comes a point where Trout has gone all-in about 6 time, winning each of the 6 times (even though he goes all-in sometimes on absolutely nothing...but is bailed out on the turn or river). I'll tell the story from my vantage point...because it's the point which I was a witness. At the deal, I'm sitting pretty with Ace/10 suited (hearts). I hadn't planned on betting this shit...but that doesn't matter. Trout, one seat before me, decides that his pocket is good enough to go all-in. He makes the move, a $2.10 raise pre-flop. Knowing that he's done this before with absolute shit in his hand...and knowing that I have a monster in the pocket, I call almost immediately. All other players fold and we show our cards. Trout flips over a 4/5 suited (diamonds). I turn my Ace/10 over with a huge amount of confidence, ready to see the flop. I go to the cards (I'm the dealer), and flip over the first community card. It's a 5. Fuck. The odds have just flipped on my ass. It's alright though...I still have an assload of outs with my flush draw + my high pocket. I turn over the 2nd card of the flop, another fucking 5. What in the hell is going on? The first two cards of the flop and I'm going against a set of 5's? Hell no. Right now, Trout, alongside the rest of the onlookers, are losing control. What are the chances that his 4/5 could dethrone my a/10? Not too good...but it's happening. Disheartened, I finish the flop. It's an ace staring back at me. Of course, I welcome the ace with open arms...but shit, there's no way in hell I'm going to get another on fourth or fifth street to beat his trip 5's. There's a pause to gather our thoughts. I'm drawing for the third ace, my only reasonable helper out there (alongside running 10's, which would give me aces full of 10's...but logic tells me that they're not going to be there). I flip the next card. I'll be dipped in shit if it isn't an ace. Trout throws his hat down in disgust, as he knows he's been beat. On the turn, my pair of Aces turns into a full house, aces full of 5's, and suddenly his monster flopped trip 5's seem sort of trivial. We look at his hand to see if there's anything that can give him the win. Of course, it doesn't matter...because my full house is basically unbeatable. After a bit, we realize that his only hope is getting the last 5 on the river...giving him 4 of a kind...but to hell with that, there are 44 unshown cards left, he's not going to get his 5. Before I rake my new $2.10 in, I decide to show everyone what the last card is...out of courtesy. I burn one and then flip it over. It's the fucking 5. Fuck.. Trout wins. Let's recap. We flip our cards: Me: Ace/10 suited Him: 4/5 suited Advantage: Me, a bit First card of flop: Me: Ace high Him: Pair of 5's Advantage: Him, a bit Second card of flop: Me: Ace high Him: Trip 5's Advantage: Him, a ton Third card of flop: Me: Pair of Aces Him: Trip 5's Advantage: Him, quite a bit The Turn: Me: Aces full of 5's Him: Trip 5's Advantage: Me, astronomically me The River: Me: Aces full of 5's Him: Four of a Kind 5's Winner: Him What a fucking hand. Definitely the most amazing poker hand that I've ever witnessed. |

I wish I would've read the whole thing first...
interestingly enough, I was/am playing pacific hold-em while reading this... I got damn near the same pocket you did, only it was clubs. I bet with confidence, thinking the coincidence was eerie and deserving of following through. I ended up pulling a straight only to be topped by a flush. not very interesting at all I guess, but now I've got a pair of cowboys winking at me... and I'm off. This hand tickled my fish. I still can't stop thinking about it. Trout got so damned lucky, it was fun to watch.

I'm not sure how you can hate poker and still have something called testicles. That means that VOL is without testicles. It's a simple conclusion, but unfortunate.
Oh well. Gaz, I didn't understand some of the post, but damn, I'll be had if I didn't marvel at the excitement of it. That musta been some sweater. |

I have to say that I to am very pleased to read about this, the sheer excitement of it all would be unmatched by nearly anything. I have to say that we (JN and I) finally found a place to play poker up here at Grace College. His brother and friends play on a card table and it's assload's of fun much like our games. I would lists JN's name but it's against the rules of Grace to gamble (it's forbidden because god doesn't want us to or at least that's what Grace says). Nevertheless I can say a huge FUCK THAT to the rule.
I'm looking forward to long nights of gambling next summer in between school years. |

As i sit here, with my computer fully fixed and working, i find my self wiping a tear from my eye. Little did i know, that when i stumpled onto nubblies, that i would be reading about the most fantastic turn of cards that one could almost ever hear about. The chances of such an occurance happening...well it truly boggles my mind. That is absolutely incredible.
I also heard an incredible story about mr. BDH getting screwed out of a 4 of a kind turn for him in 7's i believe. funny stuff but i too would be pissed if that happened to me. i hope that he was called the appropriate name that is set aside for moments like those Also, i must say that the poker terms used in this post by orgazmo definetly added to the story. i felt as though i was right there with espn covering the turn of cards. Another thing, i can't wait to be able to play again. i haven't played in like a month because wesleyans don't believe that gambling is proper. i still haven't found anything that says gambling is bad. oh well. Sooner than later, i will be down some night to play poker with the boys. take it easy down there fellas |

You can count on me coming down soon. You have no idea how bad i want to. Just give me another week or so to get everything here together. I do have curfew though on the weekdays so that sucks. If i spend the night there, then i have to sign out and junk. So we'll get that together.

I won't lie I was pretty pissed off, a lot more so than I once previously thought I would be. I snapped and apologized for it. I had a right to be pissed, just not that pissed.

Oh Grace Security...I have had my share of run-in's with them on those oh-so-hard-to-remember summer nights at 3 am. Great times they were. However, Grace Security are the most pussy, worthless, authority-less fucks ever.

Check out this one I just had on Pacific:
That made me about $15 richer. That "AShark" guy was raising back into me after the river. -Ugly Bastard [ September 30, 2003, 11:32 AM: Message edited by: Ugly Bastard ] |

HOLY FUCKING SHIT
BDH (Kojimar) and I (UglyB) were just playing together in the same room, look at what we both just got: For those of you who do not play poker, two players getting pocket aces on the same hand is very fucking rare. Let alone two players who know each other. ______ Very Next Fucking Hand: I have Jack 9 and BDH has King 9, now, look at this flop: Right now, he has to be a very happy man, 'cause he has me outkicked, but I call his bet to see the next card just in case: And the beauty of all of this is, "daznkidd" hit his straight on the turn (the fourth card), so he was probably thinking to himself "oh well, even if he does have a nine, I've still got him beat with my straight". Well, unfortuntely for him, I had a nine, and a jack, giving me a full house, which beats his straight. He was raising me every single time all the way to the bank. God bless America. Easily two of the weirdest coincidences of my life. -Ugly Bastard |
