![]() You know here at Nubblies there is a download of the day no to mention a musicless download of the day. I figured why not add a thread based on these, only about movies that people should look out for a watch. Maybe it's a bad idea, but i think it has promise. Basically just list a movie (try to limit it to one at a time) and a description of what it's about and why it's worth watching/renting/buying. I'm a big movie buff and would like to know about any movies that have maybe flown under my radar that i should see and never have.
My Recommendation: The Life of David Gale - Basic premise is that David Gale (Kevin Spacey) is an anti-capital punishment advocate who gets accused of murder and rape and is sentenced to death after being found guilty. Kate Winslet plays a reporter who is to be the first to interview him since he's been in jail. She finds that she believes he is innocent and must race against the clock to save his life before he is put to death. I'm sure it doesn't sound like some amazing movie, but if you think that you are very wrong. This move is fucking amazing. It's a movie that isn't predictable at all and makes you think hard while watching it, comparable to Vanilla Sky or Fight Club in the sense that you don't understand much of anything until the end. I recommend this movie to anyone who is a fan of movies especially good ones. Any other recommendations? |

![]() The Life of David Gale is a wonderful movie.
Kevin Spacey's a great actor, I'll recommend my favorite movie of all time as my premier recommendation, starring Kevin Spacey, American Beauty. -Ugly Bastard |

![]() American Beauty is a fucking brilliant movie.
I'd have to recommend Adaptation. It stars Nicolas Cage, and it's one of the most fucked up movies I've ever seen, but yet it's brilliant at the same time. It's for those of you that like "thinker" movies. |

![]() The Life of David Gale is great. I was so dissapointed to see that most critics thought it was trite and cliched. I loved this movie and it sticks with you long after it's over. I wasn't the same for several days after this movie.

![]() I don't know how many of you have seen the movie Donnie Darko, but it is a movie that I would definitely recommend. It's about time travel and a weird bunny. It's not as stupid as I made it sound, I promise. It's a good thought-provoking movie. Yeah. Or you could just watch the movie that I dedicated my avator to.

![]() Vanilla Sky.
I know Alpha mentioned it, and I also know for fact that toungegina is a huge fan of it. The movie is not at all a love story, as the preview made it out to be. It's extremely thought-provoking. And the end, oh my the end. Words can't describe it. Magnificent movie. |

![]() Braveheart - Let me tell you if you've never watched this movie you must, it is one of my top 5 movies of all time. Mel Gibson is great in this movie. And everyone has long hair, which rocks.

![]() Alright, let me comment on why the critics didn't really totally take up the idea on how amazing Life Of David Gale was.
First off, Kate Winslet does a horrible job in this movie. Absolutely atrocious. Her character makes no sense. She constantly cries over something that she's seen many times, and while I know that it can really f-up a person to see that video (see the movie and you will understand), the inconsistency of the role is just jarring. Other than that, Kevin Spacey does a great job, as always. This is still a movie that I would recommend, just because it really does make an impression, and it's a good watch. I wouldn't recommend buying it though, because it really is one of those movies that you can only watch maybe twice. Fruit, you stole my recommendation. Adaptation is one of the best movies that came out last movie season (I go by the end of the movie season being the Academy Awards). I wish that it would have met more acclaim in the public circles. Half the people at Blockbuster have no idea what the hell Adaptation is when I recommend it to them, and then they always pass it by. Dirty fucks. Alright, up to my recommendation. Cowboy Bebop: The Movie - Now, I know what you're saying. 'Wha? What's Cowboy Bebop? Well listen up you ignorant fuck, it's only the best anime series to come out of Japan. With a realistic viewpoint focusing on bounty hunters in the future, it blends futuristic ideas with modern day styles. And blends them well. I went into this movie knowing nothing about Cowboy Bebop. And I went away from this movie realizing that I didn't have to know anything about Cowboy Bebop to realize that this movie was the shit. The characters speak for themselves and while there is a little backstory, it doesn't deter from the main plot in the slightest. Animation. Folks, you are never going to see animation as fluid and as pretty as this. The fight scenes are the absolute best that I have ever had the privelege of witnessing, and the colors are knock you out of your seat good. The regular series knocked down barriers with it's animation crew, and this one just adds to the level of brilliance. Story. Let me tell you folks, not much anime has a good, grounded story, but that's what this one centers around. The director might also be known by any of you folks who watched The Animatrix. He directed The Second Renaissance, and....Beyond, I think. Which were some of the most kick-ass shorts in the film. I can't stress enough that you need to get this movie. But I can make a lengthy-ass post. Which I just did. Get it folks. You won't be disappointed. |

![]() Well, Fruit took the one I was originaly thinking of. Then I got another great one in my head, only to find that the butcher took it. Fuck. So, now I'm sitting here thinking of what phenominal movie I can put down here...then it hits me. I'm so suprised that noone else has put it...my only problem is which one to mention, so I'll put all 3...
The Godfater Saga (as it has come to be known), is possibly the best use of film ever. I can't even begin to go into how amazing these 3 movies are. Of course maybe if sim flex x would finish watching them and return them to me, I'd be able to watch them and give some insight (she's had them since Christmas break). Anywho, you should all have seen them, or at least know the story, so I'm not going go into it. If you haven't seen them, you're a waste of space, and if you have and didn't like them, you no longer deserve to live. |

![]() tonguegina loaned me his copy of The Boondock Saints and what can I say but wow. This is an amazing movie. IMHO Willem Dafoe's best performance ever. This movie manages to have lots of great action, it's funny, and a plot that doesn't suck. I would definitely reccomend a rental.

![]() Final Destination 2 - I also recently saw this while playing euchre with a large group. Even though I love horror movies, this movie was so over-the-top unrealistic that I laughed more than I jumped. Just an opinion, but this movie sucked at being horrorific.

![]() A Clockwork Orange - Fucking amazing movie by one of the greatest and most influential directors ever, Stanley Kubrick. It was made in 1971 by Kubrick, but was actually based on the 1962 novel by Anthony Burgess. It was a vision of what Burgess felt the world was going to be, all the while playing out a kind of morality tale...
Just a sidenote, it was originally rated X when it came out. It was also withdrawn from circulation by Kubrick himself just a year after it was released in Britain because of the copy-cat violence that it was blamed for. "Being the adventures of a young man whose principle interests include rape, ultra-violence and Beethoven." |
