Shoot 'Em Up - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This was on USA last night, it was above average given the expectations.

It's cliche, but it knows it is, and uses comically gratuitous shooting.

Jackass 3D was hilarious, for those who like that series. If you don't, you won't like it.

I liked the series, but I dislike Bam Mangina a lot. Do we have to see his bitch ass a whole lot in the movie?

The cast balance is very equal. That part made it enjoyable.

Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behavior and information processing.

The Town

I came into watching this movie with pretty high expectations as I had not heard a single person say that they didn't like it. I wanted to see it in the theaters, but unfortunately didn't have the chance to make it. I thoroughly fucking enjoyed this movie. I would honestly say it is one of the best made "heist" type of films ever. As much as I think, Affleck is hit/miss in acting, he did a pretty good job in this film. I was impressed to find out that he was the director after the fact. The cast overall, is very fucking solid.

Things I enjoyed about the film; I enjoyed how believable it was at the ability of the characters and also at the law enforcement aspects of the film. Although it doesn't go as in depth of the LE side of it, they do a very good job at a lot of the minor details of what people would actually look for. Nobody on either side is without fault or shown as being incapable.
The ability to identify with both sides. Although this is one of those films where you pretty much "root for the bad guy," the lead FBI Agent is charismatic enough to be likeable.

The only things I didn't like about the film was that it kind of followed the simple "oh, i'm gonna change my life, this one last job, blah blah blah" formula, but it's still enjoyable. Tactically, during the bank-robberies, there are several flaws that the characters do in which guys that are that calculated, in high reality, wouldn't do. The one that comes to mind the most are where they continue wearing their masks after the robbery while driving away and after car exchanges into a new car.

Rating: 9/10

Memento

I really liked how this film played out backwards. It was a pretty fun concept and leads to an interesting story line. Particularly the more you find out about Lenny's "notes" and the supporting characters, that poor bastard, Teddy . Sorry that this review is gonna be much shorter, since I typed so much about The Town.

8.5/10

*EDIT* added the movie titles because ID was whining that he couldn't see the pics.

I recently watched The Town, too. It was OK. As far as the action scenes went, it was really good. Unfortunately there was a lot of down time in the movie which put me to sleep. I also felt like the characters, even the main character, wasn't fully developed. I didn't feel like I knew them completely. Maybe that's because I didn't pay close enough attention. All in all, definitely a good flick. However, it does not compare (as few movies of this type do) to Heat-the greatest bank robber film of all time.

Agreed. I felt that the movie did have some slight issues with the pacing and it seems like a longer movie than what it really is. Feels like a 2.5+ hour movie, but really only being a few mins over 2 hours.

Yes, Heat is the best bank heist film ever.

Disagree about Heat. It's too long with a couple too many storylines. The ones involving each of the main characters' chicks could have both been eliminated imo. Dog Day Afternoon is a better bank heist film that comes to mind off the top of my head.

The King's Speech. A very well put together film. Focuses on the success of George V, Eddie VII, and George 6. George 6 stutters like a sumbitch and hires a bunch of dudes to fix that shit. Has all the ingredients of an award winner. Firth handles the role if George 6 extremely well. Rusk is good as Lionel and provides most of the comedy. Carter is solid as Liz queen mum. The casting was very well done to the point that you know who was supposed to be whom when first appearing on the screen, such as Neville chamberlain. So you get gripping story of guy overcoming his demons/ailment while gripping drama unfolds around with a happy ending. Not Korean massage happy ending, but positive uptick to the storyline at it's conclusion.

Will probably be nominated for best picture, Firth for actor, and Rusk for supporting actor or lead actor. Along with a bunch of other shit no straight dude gives a shit about.

True Grit - Not at all what I expected and felt somewhat disappointed. I was really annoyed by how much the movie made Brolin's character into a villain and then showed him as a bitch and only gave him five minutes of film time. The way he was killed was so pathetic, too. I get that you only need one shot to kill, but after the completely predictable first opportunity failing, the second was just dismal for a Coen brothers movie. I also thought Matt Damon continues to be the worst actor in modern day movies (even with Nicolas Cage considered.) Loved Jeff Bridges, despite not always being able to understand him, and thought the little girl did a great job selling her role, despite it not being a very believable one. How could she be so smart and well read, yet not know how to work a simple gun, considering she was off to kill a man?

The Fighter - The story was told very well, but the acting stole the show in this one. Christian Bale seemed to learn how to steal the show as a supporting actor (thank to Heath Ledger's Joker.) The movie played a bit close to themes found in Million Dollar Baby (White trash family, trainer with issues, and a fighter who is too old and trying for a run to the championship.) Overall, I thought it was great.

Black Swan - Ho-lee-fuck. A perfect delivery. You know a movie is great when others in the theatre are expressing confusion over what is going on and you're sitting there smiling, eyes watering, and paralyzed by the grip the movie has on your mind, heart, and soul. I had to pee the last hour and refused to get up. The acting was good, but the directing and manner in which the story was told came off was flawless. Even as I was figuring out who was what, what was going on, and how it would all come together, I still was just a passenger on the ride of this brilliant film. 4 stars, 10 out of 10, my pic for movie of the year.

Going to see Black Swan tonight and maybe slip into True Grit after (anyone ever pull that move?) Also, I'm surprised you think Matt Damon is a bad actor.

Outside of Bourne, Matt Damon has been playing the same emotionless role for years. He's not believable and when I see him in a movie, I see Matt Damon and not whatever role he is playing.

Yeah I did that when I was 15. Now my hemmorhoids don't allow me to sit in the theater that long. Seriously, as much as fucking tickets are, I don't blame you.

Isn't true Grit a remake?

When I said "for years" I thought that implied that movies from the 90s weren't in the discussion.

Black Swan was amazing. It left you completely suspended from reality throughout the whole thing. f3lix said it best, "a perfect delivery". The best 2010 release I've seen for sure.

Pppfffsssh. Like you even know what that movie is really about. You just don't know.

It pisses me off that the mainstream has tainted this epic film. 90% positive user reviews on rotten tomatoes. LOL they are so in over their head. Worthless Philistines.

f3lix, you make good points regarding True Grit. Saw it tonight. It was okay, but nothing amazing. A far cry from No Country, that's for sure. They've been turning out movies like crazy since No Country. I can't help but wonder if they're sacrificing a little artistic integrity in exchange for cashing in while their name is hot. They are Jews after all.

The Coen brothers do about one movie a year, and most of the time they're quality. However, I haven't seen True Grit, and I think their last movie "A Serious Man" was possibly their worst movie. I can handle an occasional miss on their part in return for the multitude of times they've nailed it.
