Default Due Date

"Due Date" is the hilarious tale of a father-to-be (Robert Downey Jr.) who becomes stranded across the country from his expectant wife. He is forced to hitch a ride with an aspiring, albeit, somewhat mentally retarded actor-to-be (Zach Galifianakis), on his way to Hollywood.

If you liked "Hangover," then you'll probably like this too. Most people I've talked to said that it's either as good or almost as good. I personally fall into the latter category but still highly recommend it. While it isn't a nonstop laugh-fest throughout its entirety, there are several parts that were the fucking bees knees. Galifianakis' role is the perfect foil for Robert Downey Jr.'s. I'm not even really sure who was funnier.

If I had to complain about one thing, it would have to be that there was a part or two that were just too unlikely to believe. I'm really just nitpicking here, but I was kind of thinking, "Really? That's happening right now and know one else seems to think anything is wrong with this?" Again though, it didn't even detract from the movie, I just thought I should note one bad thing about it.

8.75/10

It seems like Hollywood is really trying to beat the whole Hangover concept into the ground.

It's really more the style of comedy than anything else. Hangover did have an "I need to get home in time for something important" element to it, but the actual trip only lasted for about 5 minutes of the movie. This is more about the road trip itself.

Anything that lets Zach Galifinakis do his thing is a winner in my book. He's fucking hilarious.

I'd rather just have a camera follow Robert Downey Jr. around for about a month and edit it down to two hours of the best parts.

An 8.75 is a very high score. I would give very few movies that high of a rating. I hope you're not just throwing out numbers.

Kind of like the actual trip from Vegas to the wedding was >5 minutes of the movie, and The Hangover was more about Vegas shenanigans itself?

I'm with UB on this one. Let me put it this way: I liked The Hangover, pretty good movie, but anytime somebody over 24 quotes it/has it as their "favorite movies" on facebook or whatever, I hate them a little bit more than I previously did.

Looked to me like he was saying it was different from the Hangover.

Oh and in regard to the rating, I should clarify that it's an 8.75 for the genre. I don't think it's really fair to lump dumb comedies in with dramas or crazy blockbusters because the criteria is too different. As far as movies like this go, it's an 8.75. Hangover is probably a 9 on the same scale.

I still kinda feel it's pretty much the same concept. Hangover's focal plot was a wedding, but it was more about the "trip" around Vegas. Due Date's focal plot is a birth, but it was more about the road trip. Right? RIGHT?!!?!

Due Date and The Hangover have nothing in common:

In Due Date there are only 2 characters, The Hangover has 4.
Due Date takes place on the road, The Hangover takes place in Vegas.
Due Date is about a birth, The Hangover is about a wedding.
Due Date takes place partly in Mexico, The Hangover never leaves USA.
Due Date has a pet which accompanies the characters, The Hangover has no pet which belongs to the characters.
Nobody marries a stripper in Due Date, but they do in The Hangover.
Due Date came out in 2010, the Hangover came out in 2009.
The White French Bulldogs which appear in the two movies are NOT the same dog.
Due Date covers 5 days. The Hangover only covers 2 days.

They aren't anything alike!

The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. What comedy EVER has not been about the trip? The TRIP to Porkies, the TRIP to The Great Outdoors, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, the TRIP to the liquor store in SUPERBAD, the fucking ROAD TRIP the movie of the same name, the TRIP to Meet the Fockers / Parents. Every story ever told is about the journey, either metaphorically or literally.

Having a trip in a comedy is a staple, its like action movies having guns in them ... OHHH HHAV NOT SEEN THAT BE4!!!

Galifucknakis is already annoying to me. Perhaps it was watching his comedy special, when I realized he isn't funny by himself and needs to be the "weird" one to be viewed as funny.

I had a lingering suspicion that this was the case. I can also see his form of comedy being only but a flash in the pan. In other words, it gets old quite fast.
