If I run a car engine in a cave and fill it up w/ carbon monoxide, will the regulation of the earth prevent me from suffocating to death? Just because the earth is big it doesn't mean that we can't affect it. Especially when there are 7 billion of us affecting it each in the same direction.

As passive aggressively cute as this is, you're clearly ignoring the point that humans will likely exterminate themselves due to the negative consequences of the poor environmentalism they are practicing. I was simply pointing out that the Earth has regulated itself for billions of years, but only in the last couple hundred has it been industrialized ... thus creating new conditions that we have no scientific evidence that the Earth can "regulate"

I did it in a manner of pointing out that f3lix was choosing to ignore the key difference in the last hundred years (vs. the billions before) in the global warming argument.

How about we do some metaphors:

My face has not had shit on it my entire life, so I'm pretty sure it will regulate itself when someone shits on my face.

My liver has always regulated the alcohol I've drank in the past, I am sure it will continue to do so regardless of how much I drink.

I've never had problems with my colon before, so its safe to assume my colon will continue to regulate itself for the rest of my life.

What you have is called Holothetic logic my friend Mr. Blonde. Nature is weak and humans are weak. We are going to destroy the Earth, and the Earth is going to destroy us. It's this same logic that leads to environmentalism, and that doomsday activists (i.e. Al Gore) prey on.

Here's a few facts for you. 85% of all carbon emissions come from the ocean. CFCs are the only inert refrigeration/propellant gases that are non-corrosive, non-carcinogenic, non-explosive, and non-toxic. They are also broken down by the sun's UV ray band B (or A can't remember). The computer program's (the one that predicted the exponential rise in temperature, hence the "hockey stick" graph) main parameter was the existence of a certain type of tree. When this parameter was substituted with nearly any other variable, the exact same results were produced. Where are temperature readings taken? They're taken at weather stations in cities full of concrete that conducts heat. When studies are done to show that the Earth's average temperature has risen over time, they completely neglect to take any samples from Siberia, the largest and one of the coldest places on Earth. Finally, the amount of ice at the poles has actually increased. Although the "polar ice caps" may have shrunk a miniscule amount, the amount of ice in existence around the poles has actually increased.

Deforestation? Destruction of the rain forest? Hahaha. Tell that to the people down in Brazil who can't chop that shit down faster than it regrows up their ass in their backyard. The Earth has a history of being able to clean up our messes better than we can clean it up. When you compare the different methods used to clean up an oil spill, you will see that often the best results have come from doing nothing.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying, "go out there and pollute! Fuck the ecosystem!" We certainly do need to try our best to take care of it. But one must understand that in the humans vs. nature scenario, it's all situational. If I'm facing a bear one on one and I've got a 12 guage shotgun, that bear is fucking dead, and I am very powerful compared to nature. If that gun jams and doesn't fire, I'm pretty weak compared to nature and that bear is going to kill me. It all depends on the situation.

I can tell you this is at least partly wrong.

It is indeed true that cities are warmer than non-cities. And this is has been observed by a great many scientists. But I also know that historical readings of temperature do not come from what scientiest or people at the time recorded. There are many ways of finding out what conditions have been in history. One is to look at trees. When you cut down an old tree and look at its rings you can see how much rainfall there was for each year, etc. When you go to the antarctic and drill into the ice the ice has layers which tell you how much snowfall there was each year, and what the CO2 level at the time was. Likewise there are ways to say almost definititively what the temperature was for each year in the past, and these ways do not require human observation in cities. Scientists are so much more sophisticated than the global warming skeptics, the problem is they aren't paranoid and vocal.

Those two were meant to be different facts. The first was simply saying that temperature readings are taken in cities, which are hotter than non-cities. The second was in reference to a particular study, which I can't remember where it was from. Most of the stuff I've said comes from a book I have from an international natural resources class I took. It's not really a "book" so much as it is a collection of journal articles and chapters from books the professor compiled together and bound in a book. It also comes from lecture notes from Dr. Paul Chandler, who was probably the best professor I've ever had. If I find time I'll try to review some of that stuff to make things more clear.
