Being that I'm too ADD to actually read books, I never read this one. However, I did see the movie a couple days ago (as I assume many of you have or soon will). What were your thoughts?
First off, I thought it was a great story from the "edge of your seat, never bored" standpoint. The endless plot twists did get a little cheesy at times, but I was able to stomach it. It was also pretty damn long, but again, didn't bother me too much. I thought it was a pretty interesting take on history. Obviously it's a ficticous story, but it is based around some pretty interesting history. I'm all for movies that actually make people think critically about Christianity and whether or not it's BS, so in that sense, I really appreciated what this movie is likely to do to people. In all, pretty entertaining and worth the hype, IMO. Tom Hanks did a fucking perfect job with his role too. B+ |

Just got back from the motherfucker and I have a lot of similar thoughts.
From what I read in other peoples' reviews, those that saw the film after reading the book were quite disappointed. Having a fear of real reading, I haven't touched the book...and, much like Bastard, found myself very into the storyline. I'll more than agree about the constant twists tip-toeing on the borderline between "christ that's cool" and cheesy; however, in the end, it definitely worked and delivered a hell of a tale. I'd recommend it. |

Basically all the points about the Priory of Scion are a hoax as it wasn't created until 1956, no traceable bloodline between the Merovingian's and Jesus exist, and the DNA testing that has been done doesn't show any middle eastern characteristics in Merovingian DNA.
But the point of Jesus marrying Mary Magdolen and having children is definatly possible. |

Were you guys confused during any of the movie if you hadn't read the book? I had read it and was thinking that non-readers would have been wondering what the hell was going on, but maybe not.
The book and the movie were pretty different. The riddles might have taken 4 or 5 pages of though process in the book, only to be solved nearly immeadiately in the movie. There were some other things that got explained in the story but don't have any reasoning in the movie (she looks behind the picture immeadiately to find the key...). I think it was a rather good book to movie translation, minus some character development and plot points. (The book had two cryptexes, with the one in the movie being found inside a larger one). Oh, and definitely excellent work on not having metal octopus arms burst out of bishop Arigosa's back. |

My mom read the book like 2 or 3 years ago, and i wanted to read it but never did, and recently have found myself straying away from it because of how many people who have been putting off the attitude "oh i'm so deep and intellectual because i read the da vinci code".
However, I would like to see the movie, because while i have a general idea about what the book/movie covers (freemasons, jesus and mary magdalene, etc.) i have no idea how they are put together, and i'm all about questioning authority/christianity. |

Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behavior and information processing.

i'm boycotting it. because of all the psuedo-intellectual fucks that take the speculations in the book and think they're fact. uhh, there's a reason it's located under "Fiction". that, and everybody cares when i boycott stuff--k, not really.
