It seems unlikely that this particular trek happened, but I'd still recommend seeing the movie.

Without even clicking the link, I'm guessing it has to do with the fact that they were such early explorers/traders. It's not entirely surprising given how history goes. Maybe 200 years from now people will be amazed at how many Korean words come from English origin. Adoption and mutation is the name of the game in languages.

Ex president Jimmy Carter has been heavily involved in educating and treatment for the guinea worm in Africa, in the last few years they have been able to decrease the prevalence of it to an insane degree ... almost to the point of eradication. As shitty as he may have been as a president, Carter is genuinely one of the kindest and intelligent men to serve in the Whitehouse, just wasn't an effective president.

It's not the same as Korean words of American origin because of how original the Portuguese/Japanese relationship is. The Portuguese were

the first Westerners to find out that there were little slant eyed creatures with zany lifestyles. It was a clash of two completely different cultures, but somehow some Portuguese things managed to stay in the Japanese lifestyle. The fact that Tempura was originally Portuguese blew me away.
