Just bought this as an investment, my parents will live in it for the foreseeable future:

Stats:

Located a few miles south of Elkhart, Indiana in Northwood school district.
3 acres of property in the country
5 bedrooms
4 and 1/2 baths
5300 square feet plus 3000 square feet of deck
Salt Water pool with pool house
Hot tub
Theater room
Tiki Bar
Viking appliances
Very large pole barn
Can control lighting and electrical devises with a laptop or ipad.

Jesus dude that's insane. You moved to London as a trader and bought a huge sick house within a few years. Totally unreal. Not bad for a kid from Middlebury.

Thank you sir, but don't forget the three Ls of Real Estate: Location, Location, Location. As huge and sick as this house may be, it's still in rural Elkhart County, Indiana.

Interesting to see two pool tables.

You said it's an investment. Does that mean you got a steal on the purchase price or you think you can do more with it, or you think Elkhart County is going to improve in size and population over the next decade or two?

Yeah that Tiki bar was definitely built for entertaining guests, they had 2 pool tables, big screen TV, bar-style shuffleboard game, a stage for Karaoke. They are leaving us all the speakers, sound equipment, one pool table, and the entire Tiki bar intact (kegerator and all).

I say it's an investment because I think, in general, property and housing is undervalued relative to stocks (which are now at their pre-crisis levels). It came with 3 acres. If the world goes to hell and stocks fall 75% at least I'll still have a kickass house somewhere, even if that somewhere might not be the best.

Elkhart (while a shit hole) still has an incredible manufacturing base to power it out of the recession once this shit actually starts rolling ... the town used to have the highest per capita percentage of millionaires in the entire country ... also rural Elkhart is where people with money live in the Elkhart area.

Bonus fact: Elkhart was on the Soviet Unions nuclear target list as its manufacturing base and access to rail yards made it a threat given any drawn out conflict.

Started playing MLB 2k11. Fun game, just really slow paced. Pretty much like real baseball. I've sparked up some interest in NHL11 again. I've been playing pretty well online, but still can't beat better competition. I went 22 and 3 on Black Ops last night. Pretty solid for a camper on Domination. I'll probably be on hold until NHL 12 comes out here in a few months.

I'm not even going to look up trends to support why this isn't the reason, but it's not. IMO, FC bought a nice house for his parents to live in while at the same time reaping the benefits of a buyer's market. Awesome house for the parents now, huge almost guaranteed payoff when the time comes to collect.

Warsaw is one of the nicest cities in the state. Ranked #11 by Forbes magazine of the best places to raise a family.

Goshen and Elkhart are both shitholes.

Not really sure what to think about it. One of my best friends/long time colleagues taught at the high school for his first job and told me some things I might like/not like to hear. It's on my radar, though.
