Wouldn't you guys all be better off if we deleted this thread? By posting in it, you're admitting it's hypochondria, so isn't you posting/us reading just indulging your damaging need for attention?

I get that. I hate it. There are times it feels like every muscle in my body has been stretched uncomfortably.

The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. But I should mean that every man should receive those papers and be capable of reading them. |

What you actually have looks a lot more like mild Munchausen with a splash of Narcissism. More likely though, it's probably just moderate anxiety (still the narcissism too though). IMO self-diagnosed Hypochondriasis is a defense mechanism against perceived self-weakness. Low self-esteem and narcissism have extremely high rates of comorbidity. You didn't explicitly use the term "somatoform," though, I think it's clear that you understand the implications of the term. Chances are, you've either legitimately given in to the disorder (and need to talk to a psychiatrist or psychologist, which I don't think is the case), or you are simply seeking validation. In either case, you're living with something you don't need to be living with. I feel better now that I've gotten that off my chest. | |

I should add that I don't view narcissism as a bad thing in general and that like a lot of things, most people have some of the characteristics. I'm pretty sure you don't have narcissistic personality disorder, just like most people don't have OCD. That being said, nearly everyone has some compulsions that have the potential to eventually lead to OCD.

Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behavior and information processing.

Yeah that's pretty much what I was saying. 90% of people who think they have something (psychological), don't at all. They might be slightly more neurotic than others, but that's about it.

How long have you been taking those items?
For me, it's very, very difficult to distinguish between placebo and actual benefit from pills like those. I haven't done it many times, but, when I do branch out and try something new, I generally do feel great for a week or two. When we start talking about months, I realize that I don't really feel "great" any longer and assume it was just a short-term placebo. Of course, you could argue that I just get used to feeling good, but I generally don't start to instantly (or non-instantly) feel bad after I stop taking the stuff, so there's that. |
