I have been thinking about this a lot lately and wonder how my peers feel. Do you / are you willing to compromise dignity / integrity to get ahead at your job? Are you willing to be a "yes man" if it gets you ahead faster? Or do you stand defiantly knowing that it will take you longer to climb the ladder but you will be able to say you never compromised your dignity?

I make bad decisions.

This.
In my line of work, it doesn't really matter. Being well liked can go very far in regards to promotions, however, majority of it is seniority based, which sucks. I know many senior guys that don't do anything, but are more likely to get positions solely because of their time in service. So therefore, I just do my thing, as it really doesn't matter. I stay on people's good side and don't really make any waves, as I can essentially be fired for any reason for another 3 months. After that, I can do whatever the hell I want. Not making anyone's "bad side," particularly those in the supervisory or higher positions, is very important. I have a "party guy" reputation, whether or not that affects me in the long-run, no idea. Only time will tell. I'm trying to steer away from it, a little bit at least. |

I try not to be shortsighted. Usually a compromise of dignity or integrity goes against this. The working world is a fucking grind... people really suck. Like, I know we all say that and think that all the time, but it really, really, really is true: people just suck.

I'll play the game as long as it's in my best interest. If it no longer benefits me, I move on. I don't burn bridges and try to avoid confrontations. Perhaps it's my line of work/study but the right people can shoot me to an amazing job, so I try to keep everything in perspective.

I surely stand up for myself when I believe in what I'm doing. I hold strong. What I meant by avoiding confrontations is getting into trivial bullshit with people that can only hurt me by exposing a flaw of mine. | |
