A couple truths that ring out. Law school is three years pretty much of hazing. It really has very little to do with what a lawyer does on a day to day basis. It can be outrageously expensive as well. 100,000 in debt seems excessive, and the extreme end of the spectrum, it's possible. If it's spent at an elite school, probably a good investment, spent at a barely accredidated school it's a waste of money. I went to a state law school with a scholarship. Got put with very little debt. There's fuck loads of Constitutional law out there. Mostly in the world of criminal law. That was pretty silly stuff. However, a lot of that area is well established in most areas. It's the mundane stuff where it appears, not unlike the video's example. But instead of the IP of a font, think of something mundane of whether or not a contract worker with post office is entitled to protection when driving a personal car. --I actually had this case around 2005. As far as money goes, about the top 10 percent of every class will find a job that pays them about 150000 to start. They will make around 250,000 annually around their 7th to 9th year. However, many will leave their firms to go on their own. The ceiling at most big firms is around 500-600k per year. And the culture seems to be changing. Most bottom of the class barely passed the bar guys will be making 100k eventually. Now there are exceptions. There are some fucks who aren't going to make much no matter what. Small public service lawyers will make a decent living, but not as much in private practice. However, loan forgiveness is a big part of that draw. We all know somebody who has a shit attorney job. Those are usually temporary. After getting some experience, they usually leave. The key to making silly money is to persevere, it will happen. The ranks just seem to thin out after a while. What's not mentioned is women attorneys. Law students are about 50% female. The stereotype is that women don't usually make great career attorneys --and there's some truth to that. It's seems the exception to the rule is the female career attorney who stayed lock-step with men in their advancement. There's all sorts of reasons behind it, but typically, the only people she will socialize with are other lawyers. It's not him taking maternity leave for the third time in five years. Some really decent women simply and unexplained just quit. | |
