A quarter of USDA prime beef. I got the rib, sirloin, and round section of the cow. 726 pounds total. Was earmarked for a prime steakhouse that filed for chapter 11 yesterday. Total was $1,096.

Family used to be big into large-scale-beef production but changed to produce in 80's. Still raised 4-H steers my whole life. Parents always split a steer in auction at the end of every summer.

Permanent beef in the freezer outside. Didn't appreciate it till older. Will definitely be doing same thing once i'm settled. (with a basement freezer chest, of course.)

Already had what I thought was an enormous deep freezer. It did not hold everything. So I packed in as much as could into the freezer portion of the beer fridge. Then put what I could into the freezer portion of the fridge in the house. The remainder went into the freezer portion of the refrigerator that mrs pancake brought into the marriage.

This should last at least a year or so. It doesn't look like much hanging on a hook or when it's butchered into small packages. But holy fuck that's a lot of beef. If any of you are in the area and want some, your welcome to it.

Took me a while to understand what you were saying here. Yeah, the overhead on beef is pretty nuts. All the more reason to head to your local butcher instead of Meijer/Wal-mart etc.

Better yet, get with some friends who want to buy and buy at a local beef auction. There are usually a fair amount in Indy.
