Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behavior and information processing.

Was talking to Blonde the other night about this. I think his overall failure has gone even further than that. If someone with so much "hope" and momentum behind them could accomplish so little as president, it has to undermine what the general public will think of the next guy that comes along. At this point the next election will break down with a lot of voters saying "doesn't matter who's elected, nothing will change anyway" and giving up on the process all together.

![]() The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. But I should mean that every man should receive those papers and be capable of reading them. ![]() |

I didn't know what other thread to put this in.
Something that bothers me about a lot of liberal-minded types in our society is how much they whine about injustices but then make consumer decisions that only promote these perceived injustices. It's just very elitist and hypocritical. Example: white people who whine about blue-collar types that barely put food on the table in their profession of logging. "I don't like tree killers," they might say. But then these same white people of course want nice hardwood flooring in their huge new home that they're building. It's like, don't you fucking idiots get it? The only reason those guys are out there cutting down trees is because people like you buy wood! I feel like most of these people that I'm referring to have little awareness of the depth and scope of the hypocrisy by which they lead their lives every day. They get off on living a lifestyle that allows them to feel better than other people and have the nerve to condemn the very working class types who did things that catered to their excessive tastes. |

Making another post so the edit Nazi doesn't jump on my nuts.
Speaking of the logic that UB so eloquently put forth, do those same types of people not understand that it's in the logging company's interest to maintain a sustainable agro-forestry operation? If they just "killed" all the trees without regrowing them, would they not eventually run out of raw materials? I mean come on, it's not rocket science. Even if they could perpetually move from location to location cutting down trees, the costs associated with operations such as that would certainly run the logging company into the ground. Furthermore, do they enjoy having a house? A nice, open backyard? Do they like the highways that they drive on? How about the food that they eat? What about the malls that they shop at? All of these things would not exist if we didn't cut down the fucking trees. The hypocrisy of these Al Gore types is aggravating to say the least. The left-wing politicians are certainly no better. There is a book about this type of mentality that is so apparent in left-wingers (the politicians most notably) it's called, "Do As I Say, Not As I Do". |

Consumerist liberals make themselves look pretty bad in that aspect, UB. Reminds me of the "Smug Alert" South Park episode.

Backyards are essentially a waste of space and money, especially ones with grass. HUGE unnecessary waste of water, when parks are readily available. We should keep them to a relatively minimum size. Not to infringe on your liberty to have a half-acre backyard that you don't use for anything but grilling out. Highways, also necessary. But those are lines, which can (and should) be fully surrounded by either trees or fields. Which brings us back to the issue of overpopulation and the agricultural land needed to sustain such populations. You may not think the world is overpopulated, but when hundreds of millions of people are starving on a daily basis, while Americans get fatter and fatter, I beg to differ. I'm sure the world COULD sustain more people agriculturally, but my point is, why should we keep pushing population growth when we can't even properly take care of the populations we (humans) have already? All this being said, going green is still hard. We're just going to need better technology. It's not that practical right now, even though it might be immediately necessary (only the future will tell). The creator of Dilbert wrote up his experience on it here, it's pretty good. EDIT: Also, I fucking hate malls. | |

Wired magazine did a pretty good article like a year or so ago that challenged a lot of conventional wisdom wrt going green. The jist of it was basically that humans living in large cities in warm climates is a good thing bc less greenhouse gases emitted overall when we're huddled up in a dense mass vs. being spread out and running a/c isn't nearly as damaging to the environment as running a heater. I think they said heating a house emits something like 4x the amount of greenhouse gases as cooling a house does.

Stupid bitch. These photos are great for her. Free press, she gets to come out and say that this is what is wrong with politics today, and then she decides it's sexist. Dumb, dumb, dumb cunt.

I'm amazed at how pathetic people are. Why do these photos even matter? So the girl can have a good time. Big fucking deal. I'd rather have seen that and her say that she can have a good time then have her react like a prude. Politicians really need to stop taking themselves so seriously and voters need to vote for what actually matters.
