Good comedy bit on homeopathic medicine. I have a new friend out here who started working at my school a month ago. Cool guy, goes out and drinks, premarital sex, no worries, but says he is religious and christian based. saw Jars of clay and other christian rock on his computer the other day and picked a debate with him because him and these two hot-new girls in my area are religious and I want to make my beliefs (or lack thereof) known before I get stuck with them in some lame social situation where its 3 against one. Anyways, he said to me verbatim these two lines: "Science doesn't know EVERYTHING" (see video above) and " I wish my pastor was here right now. " My response to the first one was exactly how it was in the above video: Science knows it doesn't know everything, thats why its still around, otherwise it would stop. He didn't have much to say to that. My response to the second one was "Even if he was here, what answers could he possibly give me that you couldn't? Does he know something neither you nor I, both educated individuals in the primes of our lives don't know? After that I tried to explain the concepts of FSM and Russell's teapot to him but to no avail. Another buddy of mine sent me this link tonight, I think its pretty good: LOLOL I had posted the above link before i finished the video, the last 5 seconds is gold but you have to watch the whole video to realize how asinine it is. Wow. |

Dara Ó Briain, unfunny.
Listened to a lot of this guys podcasts lately, his British accent makes him sound so important, with a hint of calm/angry at the same time, I love it! his videos are worth listening to, they're on podcast as well as this site. PAT CONDELL'S GODLESS COMEDY |

It also might be a case of Dawkins being bad at what he does. He's brilliant, yes, but I wish in these scenarios he'd get into specifics. You can't let O'reilly get away with these broad statements of God without bringing it back specifically to Christianity. He said he believes in Evolution, but that there was a deity behind it. Well that's all fine and dandy, only there's no room for evolution in Christianity, since the Bible, the source of Christianity, clearly states that God created the first man and woman as we are today. If Dawkins would have just said that, and focused more on specifics, he could've exposed O'reilly, who's an obvious apologist.

Yeah, my main reason for posting it was that while I obviously agree with Dawkins over O'Reilly, moreso on this topic than general political bickering, Dawkins did a terrible job arguing it and it is difficult for me to really bash O'Reilly in this case when he kinda sorta out-argued him.

doubt it Quote:
I fully realize you went to Grace college for four years, but you've talked about your previous sexual and drinking exploits before, and you just didn't seem like the actual religious type. So out with it BDH: what do you believe, and why?

I was agnostic for the last 24 years of my life. The last two months some pretty amazing things happened, I'm not going to delve into it all over nubblies but my religious views did a complete 180. I tried to runaway from it for the first few weeks some of these things happened but I couldn't.
UB, I'm not ashamed of anything I've ever done, it only molds me for the future person I am. I deleted that comment cause I have a 12 year old niece as a facebook friend that I really don't care to let know I smoked a lot of marijuana. Flame away. |

+1 on wanting to hear more about your religious 180. And also a vow from me not to judge it in any way. I think a few years ago I would have, but I've since made my peace with religion.
